Love, Love, Love
Love this compost tumbler. Was given one as a gift and loved it so much I had to buy a second. Step-by-step instructions for assembly are easy to follow, but the process is a bit of a challenge. Once assembled, the tumbler is super sturdy and so user friendly. Just fill it up with leaves and grass clippings, give it a good turn every week or so and ZING! Rich compost for the garden in no time at all.

Awesome but a b!@$# to build
I literally just got finished building this compost tumbler on my own, which is probably why it was so difficult to build.I had variety of choice phrases to call the tumbler while building it & had to stop building it for fear I’d throw it into the street and watch cars crash into it repeatedly. My frustration was mainly due to one of the pieces not fitting correctly, forcing me to widdle it down in order to get a screw through it (a plastic piece). The instructions are not ideal for building such a complicated piece..I wish it was a bit more descriptive in that area. Though, I, a 24 year old female, managed to build it on my own…I suggest using a screw gun and wrenches as your main tools to build is compost tumbler…and make sure to meditate before building it.As for the built tumbler, it’s awesome. Very large and sturdy looking and feeling. I can’t wait to see it work its magic 🙂

Cool product – big loading/unloading door – challenging assembly
If you reaaaallllyyy liked building legos, but wished they were huge and rolled around while you tried to fit things together that needed to start at peculiar angles while being pounded on with a mallet, and wished the directions called out pieces by letter designations that were marked on the instructions, but not on the parts, so you had to look at each part and find the one unique feature that part has the that other 6 don’t have, then try to figure out which edge you’re working on…and did I mention it rocks and rolls all the time?…then you’re gonna love this!I think it’s going to do its intended purpose well (converting chicken manure into usable fertilizer), but it was a 2 1/2 hour aerobic tag team puzzle to put it together.(Would it really be that hard to mark each of the sides with the part number/letters while injection molding them? Or maybe they are marked, but the parts are black and I just didn’t see them while building it in the living room on Friday evening (boy do we know how to party or what?))Once assembled, somehow, the locking pin was about an inch away from engaging with the locking holes…took part of it apart and when we put it back together the same way, it worked (applied a little english to it while reinstalling the piece inside on the aeration tube and it slipped into proper place). It seems like the locking positions have the door pretty high up for loading purposes, and the lower position is closer to dumping than shoveling out, too. But, it’s a good size, it fits the space we have between the coop and the garden nicely, it’s easy to spin the can, and the door opening is huge compared to a lot of the other options.Would recommend, but would probably look for something easier to assemble next time.

Good design concept ruined by poor/cheap decisions re: materials – stay away.
All internal metal parts begin rusting within 6 months and rapidly fail from there. Unfortunately, I purchased 3 units. Lifetime sells replacement parts, the locking mechanism and brackets to hold the panels together and internal aeration bar even the screws and bolts all corrode to useless, so, you get the pleasure of building them repeatedly. They are a pain to assemble, even less fun the second time after resortuing to a grinder to remove the rusty bolts. New hardware also rusts within a couple of months- so, you gotta become cool with knowing your compost has rust in it – the center bar corrodes and spalls (flakes off in big rusty chunks) that fall into your compost. Because of the wide mouth door design (great feature until the latch fails) the contents dump onto the ground once the panels start to shift as the little (absurdly tiny) corner brackets rust and break. I’m done rebuilding them, taking all 3 of mine to the dump. A shame Lifetime decided to use inadequate cheap metal hardware in a damp and corrosive environment or these things could last decades, the angle of brackets and locking mechanism are so specific to the unit you have to keep buying replacement parts from them, lasts only 6 months before compromised, made me wonder if they planned the metal to fail so they could sell replacemts. Remember, “Lifetime” is just the company name, it is NOT indicative of how long the product will last.

Large and well designed.
This is a big tumbler. Don’t over fill.During a hot stretch this summer, compostable material in three weeks.Proper mix of materials important. With practice and research this can be figured out.The tendency to overfill can be tempting since it is so large.Too full can make it more difficult to turn and slower to reach “maturity” .A challenge to assemble but with time and patience is worth the effort.A great product, and hoping it will last a few years.

Mixed problems with this composter
I love the theory and look of this composter. There are some problems however. First, it is NOT easy to assemble. Not impossible by any means but by no means quick or easy. Takes a lot of tools and patience. The rounded pieces to not set on surfaces easily and connecting bars are a real struggle to assemble. The self-threading screws were difficult. On the positive side the directions were, for the most part, beautifully done. Other problems include the rounded sides means that when it rains the bottom retains water. Also the pin to lock the tumbler from spinning is not long enough to engage. The lid easily slides off when open, whether you want it to or not. I am sure I will bet used to that and it will not be a problem. On the positive side, the plastic is high quality and very sturdy. Once assembled it seems to be a mostly good unit.

Just received the composter yesterday. I was a bit leary with assembly because of the reviews from .ca and .com. The instructions were well done (only one or two times I was scratching my head) but nothing completely off the wall to put together. (An extra hand does help as well, it gets a bit awkward with the shape)The materials are sturdy, when assembled the unit rotates freely and smooth. The door is secure and easy to open. The opening for that matter is huge, very easy access to add items and dump them out.I cannot comment on the lifespan as of yet, but will edit if there are issues.

Had this just shy of 5 years now. Absolutely brilliant, big capacity, wide opening door, still rock solid and mechanisms still functioning as it should. Moving to a bigger garden and will be purchasing two more.Yes assembly is time consuming but done right the longevity of them outweigh the ballache of putting it together. Compost done correctly will come out quicker with this tumbler design.Pricey but worth it for the build quality and you’ll be making your own compost win win
