Wow. Never had a product literally break upon first use. This one did. I had my misgivings about a product that attempts to pressure fit a pick head onto a plastic handle, rather than bolt the head to the handle. I was right. First swing into loose dirt—broken. Head separated from handle.The head looks to be of good steel. The handle, albeit a plastic composite material of some sort, seemed fine. But the two are pressed together, and perhaps glued together in some manner. In any event, the head came off and when reset onto handle was loose—very loose—and the product unusable.The product went straight to the trash from package. Must be a record of some sort. 🙁

Perfect for a small garden love the synthetic handle
**Background:** We have a garden beside our house with elevated boxes, and sometimes we need to turn the soil or remove last year’s crops. A small pickax like this would be super handy.**Build Quality:** This is definitely a budget pickax; the metal pick part appears to be made from a low-cost casting. The handle is actually better than expected—it’s pretty strong plastic with rubberized sections where you grip it for better hold. I’m not planning to do heavy-duty digging or try to lift large rocks, so I have no worries about it breaking. It’s just the right size for use in a small garden.**Function:** The pick side and the wider side work exactly as expected. They make quick work of garden soil. I also like the synthetic handle, as I often leave garden tools out in the rain, and the plastic handle will never rot. The pickaxe weighs 579 g.
